The season is almost a month old and Alex Rios hasn't found his name in many free agent rumors.
However, the 35-year-old isn't ready to announce his retirement from Major League Baseball.
Rios has offered to play for teams, according to a report.
Josh Reddick says he's not aware of any substantive extension talks that took place between his agents and the Oakland Athletics during the spring.
Reddick told his agents, Seth and Sam Levinson of ACES, that he didn't want to be involved in the process.
"I've told [my agents], 'I don't want to even get a phone call if we don't think it's the right deal for me,'" he said. "They understand that. They're right on the same page with me. The A's told me they still wanted me, and they want it to be at the right price, and that was obviously great to hear."
Reddick can become a free agent at the end of the season.
Todd Frazier sought a contract extension with the Cincinnati Reds prior to his trade to the Chicago White Sox, according to a report.
Jon Heyman reports that Frazier and his representatives at CAA "made many proposals" to the Reds about a long-term deal. One of the deals was in the seven-year, $100 million range.
The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a Minor League contract with Michael Bourn.
Bourn, 33, was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves late in Spring Training and then released.
He is in the final season of a four-year, $48 million contract that he signed with the Cleveland Indians heading into the 2013 season.
Yadiel Hernandez, who defected from Cuba late last June, has been declared a free agent by Major League Baseball.
The 28-year-old corner outfielder had a showcase back in February that reportedly drew scouts from 25 teams.
Hernandez is a career .324/.449/.487 batter in Cuba.
The Baltimore Orioles have offered Kyle Lohse a contract and the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers are also interested, according to a report.
It remains to be seen if the 37-year-old has received an offer from Cincinnati or Detroit.
Lohse is coming off a rough season in the final year of a three-year, $33 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Visiting Busch Stadium for the first time since he left the St. Louis Cardinals to sign with the Chicago Cubs, Jason Heyward was careful to clarify some of his December comments, which he thinks were misconstrued.
Heyward said at his introductory news conference he would "rather grow up with a bunch of guys and make them family and be able to cherish that without feeling like I had to restart."
Mike Matheny was among those that took exception to what as perceived as a shot at the Cardinals' aging core.
Heyward said Monday that he wasn't talking about the players' ages -- he was talking about their contracts.
If the Cardinals decline Matt Holliday's $17 million option for next season, he could be a free agent in November. Adam Wainwright is signed through 2018. Yadier Molina is signed through 2017 with an option for 2018.
"In Atlanta my first three years, I felt like we had a special group, some guys who did some special things in this game and are still doing special things in this game. Some guys have moved on," Heyward said. "It was kind of a heart-breaking experience for me that the business broke us up that quickly. Dealing with the process of figuring out where I'm going to go, free agent-wise, I just felt like Chicago's going to give me a great opportunity to be with these guys for the majority of my contract."
Many Cardinals fans were hurt or angry that Heyward chose the Cubs, and many elected to boo the outfielder at the game Monday.
The Colorado Rockies are still awaiting Major League Baseball's decision on punishment for Jose Reyes in the wake of a domestic violence incident.
Trevor Story has been extremely productive at shortstop, which has led Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post to predict that the Rockies could outright release Reyes once any potential suspension is served.
Jose Miguel Fernandez, who fled Cuba a little more than four months ago, is expected to audition for hundreds of scouts on May 2 and 3 in the Dominican Republic.
Fernandez, who turns 28 next week, is a Major League free agent.
"Fernandez had been the second baseman on the Cuban national team, including at the 2013 World Baseball Classic, and he had excelled as a hitter for Matanzas in Serie Nacional," writes Ben Badler of Baseball America. "During his final full season (2013-14) in Serie Nacional, Fernandez ranked second in the league in OBP, batting .326/.482/.456 in 314 plate appearances with 65 walks and 10 strikeouts. Fernandez wasn’t a threat in terms of speed or power, but he rarely swung and missed or expanded the strike zone, showing a short swing and enticing on-base skills that made him one of Cuba's top players.
"On talent alone, Fernandez should be able to step immediately into a major league lineup."
